Dr. Preston's Eng Lit Comp 2012-2013 Orientation

AP English Literature & Composition is a course I chose to take because it is “AP”. “AP” means this will be a challenging course and I’d rather be challenged in school than take a free ride on an easy. I go to school every day, not just because I have to by law, but because I want to. I’ve been in a college prep class at Righetti and I’ll tell it was insanely banal.  I made a promise then that I would never subjugate myself to the ordinary and easy classes. That was freshmen year and since then I have tried to take as many AP classes as I possibly could. Of course, an advantage to taking an AP class is that it bumps up GPA, which looks great for colleges.
Technology is not my strong suit so I’m a little nervous about the blog. I am not an internet junky so I am in no way savvy with blogs, but I am definitely going to become great friends with students that do know.  I am also excited about the blog, because I don’t how it works. I know that through this class, I will adapt to blogger and this will help me in the future when I want to brainstorm with colleagues. Dr. Preston has always worked in a different format than most teachers which keeps the learning environment different. I mean, when was the last time a teacher encouraged students to videotape a lesson/presentation? Some students videotape lessons in college but none at the high school level. This is definitely a class that will prepare me not only for college but also to network in the future, and networking is the best way to job in this technological future. This class will also help me adapt to technology the fact that I am posting on a blog means I will learn many things about technology.
Lastly, I chose to take AP English Literature class is because of literature. I love to read and have since I was in elementary school. While most people may think that The Scarlet Letter was boring, I thought it was interesting and a portion of our history. I look forward to reading more great novels in this class.
